Bishop BurtonUniversity Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) is supporting degree-level farming students by offering free accommodation on its stunning campus.

UCBB, based near Beverley, in East Yorkshire, has introduced a new Land-based Accommodation Scholarship for higher education students.

It means eligible students on programmes including HNC in Agriculture, Foundation Degree in Agriculture, Foundation Degree in Agriculture (Precision Crop Technology) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Precision Agriculture can live in UCBB’s dedicated university housing without any cost.

Students at UCBB study, work and can live on its extensive estate, which includes a fully operational 890-acre farm, split between arable and grassland, beef and sheep units, and a recently redeveloped pig unit.

They have access to UCBB’s multi-million-pound Centre for Precision Agriculture, where they use the latest cutting-edge agriculture technologies focused on precision farming to transform food production and reduce emissions, pollution, waste, and soil erosion.

UCBB’s lecturers have current industry expertise drawn from careers in the farming sector, with many still at the forefront of best practice working in agriculture alongside lecturing.

The Land-based Accommodation Scholarship is UCBB’s latest move to support the country’s future farmers, with graduates going on to enjoy successful careers in agricultural engineering, agronomy, animal health and welfare, farm management, genetics, land agency, and livestock procurement.

UCBB is part of Bishop Burton College, which is celebrating 75 years of training generations of farmers this academic year.

Principal and CEO Danny Metters said: “With the cost of living at the moment, we understand that affording a university education can be challenging for many.

“We’re fully committed to helping our students realise their ambitions by supporting them every step of the way, and removing potential barriers, which is why we’re delighted to introduce the Land-based Accommodation Scholarship.

“The scholarship covers all accommodation costs when an eligible land-based student is living on our wonderful campus, to take away the financial pressure they may otherwise feel. This will enable them to fully focus on their studies as they work towards their chosen career, as well as making the most of their time living on site with us.”
