What Career? And What University? Live event, held at the NEC Birmingham on March 1st and 2nd, 2024, participated in by Lantra, offered a unique platform for students, parents, educators, and career advisors to explore diverse career opportunities. The event aimed to bridge the gap between students and different industries, inviting participants to engage with various organisations, including universities and industry experts.

The event, extensively promoted on Channel 4 in the weeks leading up to it, attracted attendees from schools, colleges, and universities nationwide. Students from Year 10 to Year 13, along with their teachers, participated eagerly, seeking insights into potential career paths. Lantra's presence drew a lot of interest from students curious about jobs in land-based industries.

Throughout the event, Lantra's team received many questions, with one common theme: "Where do people start looking for opportunities in land-based industries?" The engagement was strong, especially on the first day, as students explored fields like animal care, equine studies, and land-based engineering. Many students, still unsure about their career paths, were excited to learn about new industries.

The event also highlighted the crucial role of parents in shaping students' career choices. With over 300 postcards distributed for industries like environmental conservation and wildlife management, parents emerged as active participants, seeking information to guide their children's decisions. Notably, discussions revolved around the necessity of degrees, availability of apprenticeships, and required qualifications, reflecting the need for comprehensive guidance in navigating career pathways.

Lantra also organised a seminar titled 'Growing your career within land-based industries,' featuring insights from industry professionals like Oliver Brisbourne. The seminar, attended by around 50 participants, provided valuable perspectives on career progression and opportunities within the sector. Moreover, attendees emphasised the importance of accessible platforms, such as comprehensive websites, to facilitate informed decision-making regarding career choices.

As the event concluded, Lantra expressed optimism that its efforts, along with the launch of an informative careers page on its website, would help students and parents explore various career paths in land-based and environmental industries. Lantra aims to assist aspiring individuals in making informed career decisions and navigating modern industries by providing accessible information.
