Mike Duxbury, a.k.a. the Blind Farmer
Mike Duxbury, the Co-Founder of the Inclusive Farm, defied the odds to pursue his lifelong dream of farming despite being totally blind since the age of six. Inspired by his family's farming background, Mike's determination led him to become the first blind student accepted into Warwickshire College of Agriculture.
There, he specialised in pig farming and earned certifications in pig craftsmanship and artificial insemination, along with a degree in animal nutrition. Despite facing prejudice, Mike's college experience empowered him to pursue his passion for agriculture and overcome obstacles.
Today, alongside his partner Ness Shillito, Mike is dedicated to creating inclusive opportunities in agriculture through the Inclusive Farm near Flitwick, Bedfordshire. This innovative farm aims to train people with disabilities for careers in agriculture while providing hands-on learning. With a diverse range of livestock and dedicated training programs, Inclusive Farm offers students the skills needed for success in farming. Mike's journey from college student to farm founder highlights his commitment to breaking down barriers and championing diversity in agriculture.
