Herdsperson – Chippenham, Wiltshire

Due to ongoing growth in our business, we are looking for a Herdsperson to join our team in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success.

Our Farm

Our farm is 420 acres with an additional 150 acres rented. We are a family run farm who have been dairy farming for over 70 years. We have heavily invested in upgrading our farm facilities and have a grass-based herd of 350, block autumn calving cross bred Holsteins with Norwegian Reds, who are currently yielding 8,500 litres, with their milk supplied to Cadburys via Selkley Vale Milk Ltd. The herd is milked through a 24/48 fast exit parlour with in parlour feeding. Our replacement heifers are reared on the farm, supported by Vet students.

Our business has diversified into consultancy, property and renewable energy. We pride ourselves on our continued commitment to invest in our farm, herd, and its people.

Your Role

As a 2-i-C Herdsperson, you will be working hands on closely with our Farm Manager supporting with the day-to-day running of the farm.

Your roles and responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

- Milking to a high and consistent standard.

- Daily Management of the herd and ensuring animal welfare is the top priority.

- Supervising vet students with calving and assisting the operation when required.

- Operating a rotational paddock grazing system in accordance with the grazing management plan.

- Maintaining records and providing data to the Farm Manager to ensure data is kept up to date and utilised to benefit the herd's wellbeing. All our records are kept using Uniform.

- Keeping the farm overall tidy & safe to operate, setting consistent high standards

- Liaising with vets & nutritionists for the farm.

- Treating & identifying illnesses and recording in the medicine book.

- Supporting the growth of the farm and working in collaboration with the family and team.

- Basic tractor/ machine operation alongside general farm work.

- Actively joining team meetings that we hold monthly.

A full UK Driving license is required for this role. Foot trimming and AI qualifications are preferred but not essential as training can be given.

A proof of UK right to work will need to be provided.

You will be a key team player, keen to take on responsibility and support those around you. As a a self-starter with a high attention to detail, who takes pride in their work, you will value positive working relationships and have a passion for the development of your own skill set.

We are looking for somebody who wants to take the next step in their career, who enjoys working hands on with cows. Your attitude to cow husbandry and your work ethic is more important to us than your experience.
