Farm Manager – Knighton, Presteigne, Herefordshire

We are now looking for a Farm Manager to help lead the farm into the next phase of its exciting future.

NOTE - You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success.

Our Farm

Our farm is based in the picturesque town of Knighton covering 220ha, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Our grazing dairy herd currently consists of 450 Jersey cross Friesans, who are milked twice a day through a 36 Waikato Herringbone parlour, with the milk supplied on an Arla Care contract. The cows are spring block calved, with all the records and data kept up to date using uniform.

You will be joining a full time team of 3, with part time support staff, who all share our passion for cows and high standards. The farm was recently converted to a dairy unit, meaning we have modern infrastructure in place.

Your Role

As the Farm Manager, you will be working closely with the farm owner to effectively lead the dairy operation. Roles and responsibilities will include:

- Day-to-day running of the dairy farm operation - managing the dairy, milking and ensuring the cow's health and welfare is the top priority.

- Liaise with the farm owners to achieve agreed KPIs and herd targets

- Overall daily staff management, creating rotas and ensuring day-to-day tasks are completed

- Taking full responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.

- Full grass management & budgeting

- Liaising with vets, nutritionists and contractors for the farm.

- Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times

- Keeping basic records and compliance up to date

- Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.

All our staff work 1 in 3 weekends and have a day off after their weekend in, with hours and rotas increasing during calving and peak periods. This offers our staff a long-lasting work life balance.

Qualifications & Licenses required

- A full UK Driving license.

- Proof of UK right to work

- Foot trimming qualification

The successful candidate will:

- Demonstrate strong previous experience in agriculture and dairy management

- Have experience in leading a team on a day-to-day basis to achieve agreed targets

- Possess the skills to communicate and work effectively with others, adapting your style when needed

- Be a confident person, who has high attention to detail and organisational skills

- Possess the passion and care for the dairy herd, ensuring their welfare is your highest priority.
