Job Description
Grade UE06: £33,882 to £39,105 per annum
CMVM/The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies/Langhill Farm
Full-time: 35 hours per week
Open-ended: permanent
The Opportunity:
The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies is looking for an experienced farm animal technician based at the University of Edinburgh dairy herd at Langhill Farm. You will organise and assist student teaching classes at R(D)SVS farms, including Langhill Dairy Unit and Easter Bush sheep flock, as well as facilitate research work on R(D)SVS farms.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week).
Your skills and attributes for success:
- You will have extensive knowledge and experience of practical dairy farming and animal husbandry.
- You should have good IT skills, including the use of farm software.
- You will have good understanding and experience of large animal research and the Home Office Legislation under the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986.
- You should have experience of teaching veterinary or agricultural students.
- You must possess excellent communication skills as you will be expected to coordinate with researchers, veterinary teaching staff and students.

In a joint submission to the latest UK Research Excellence Framework exercise, research at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS) and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has been ranked number one in the UK for agriculture, food and veterinary sciences by combining Times Higher Education’s ratings for each institution. The judgement, based on the quality and breadth of research, maintains the R(D)SVS and SRUC’s position as the strongest provider in these subject areas. The institutions’ research environment was classified to be 100 per cent world leading or internationally excellent for agriculture, food and veterinary sciences research. The Vet School and SRUC submission was also assessed as being 100 per cent world leading or internationally excellent in terms of the impact its research work has on wider society.
