The Role:

A new opportunity to be part of a successful high-performing dairy enterprise. You will be involved with managing a 450 cow Holstein herd on an Arla 360 contract, achieving top class standards in the areas of herd health and welfare, fertility and general husbandry.

The Farm:

The herd is summer seasonal calving, milked 3 times a day through a new 40:40 GEA parlour. The cows are housed and TMR fed through the winter and grazed from late spring to make the most of milk from grazed grass. We aim to grow top quality grass silage on a multicut system, together with maize silage, on 750 acres. We feed the cows a high forage TMR diet to optimise milk yields and cow health. As a closed herd, we rear all our own replacement heifers on farm.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for dairy cows to work alongside the family owners and to lead the day-to-day running of the dairy herd.

The Successful Candidate:

This is a “hands-on” management role where you will be required to work with a team of seven in all aspects of the dairy including milking, calving, foot trimming, AI, medicine treatments/vet routine, farm maintenance, youngstock management and tractor yard work.

We are looking for a candidate with skills in:-

  • Dairy herd management
  • People management/ongoing training of dairy staff
  • Excellent stockmanship with a strong attention to detail
  • Passionate about animal welfare
  • Organisational skills and planning
  • Accurate farm record keeping and farm assurance compliance
  • Computer-based herd recording systems, preferably Uniform-Agri

Accommodation: 3-bedroom house close to farm, near good schools, easy access to Oxford and London.

Start date: 1st June 2023
